Not rated: FPS Finance free help with filling in your return. Their official pages could not be read when we checked, so we do not score them rather than guess.

Values link to the provider page we read on the date shown on hover. Prices change: confirm on the provider's site before you sign.

Your first Belgian tax return usually arrives as a surprise. You have been paid all year with tax withheld on every payslip, and then, the following spring, the tax administration (FPS Finance, also called SPF Finances / FOD Financiën) expects a return covering your worldwide income, your Belgian and foreign bank accounts, and sometimes a property you still own at home. The forms and the online application are in French, Dutch or German, and the vocabulary is technical.

This guide is for employees, freelancers and families who live or earn in Belgium and want help with the annual personal income tax return. It compares eight options: filing yourself on Tax-on-web, the government’s own help, low-cost accountants, expat specialist firms, an app for the self-employed, and a payroll firm’s tax service.

What decides the choice is the complexity of your file, not the brand. A single salary and nothing abroad is a simple return; foreign income, a foreign property, a partner with income elsewhere, a non-resident status or self-employment are not. The other deciding points are language, whether the firm files for you under a mandate, and what happens after filing if the tax office has questions.

How to choose tax return help in Belgium

Know the calendar

The return covers the income of the previous calendar year. The deadlines are set for each campaign: electronic filing through Tax-on-web usually has a later deadline than the paper form, and some kinds of income, such as self-employment or foreign professional income, can come with a later electronic deadline.

The official FPS Finance pages showed a captcha when this guide was prepared, so we do not quote the dates here. Check them for the current campaign on MyMinfin or the FPS Finance website, and if you use an accountant, ask which deadline applies to your return. Start early either way.

Decide who files

There are three set-ups:

  • You file yourself on Tax-on-web through MyMinfin. You need a Belgian eID or itsme to log in.
  • A firm files for you under an electronic mandate. You send documents, the firm prepares a draft, you approve it and they submit it.
  • An app guides you and you submit, with coaches answering questions. This exists mainly for the self-employed.

Check the accountant is registered

Accountants and tax advisers in Belgium are registered with the ITAA, the Institute for Tax Advisors and Accountants. Its public register search was behind a Cloudflare check on 2 November 2026, so the ITAA numbers in this guide are as stated by the firms. Search the register yourself before you sign a mandate.

Read what the fee covers

A published price is usually for a defined return type. Ask about:

  • foreign bank accounts, foreign property and other annexes, which some firms bill as extras;
  • joint returns for married or legally cohabiting couples;
  • what happens when the tax office sends a question, proposes a correction or you want to file an objection. These are often outside the filing fee.
  • VAT: Belgian professional prices are often quoted excluding VAT.

Traps for newcomers

  • In your first year you may receive a paper form rather than an online invitation. Do not ignore it because it is in French or Dutch.
  • If you receive a pre-completed proposal, check it. If it is wrong or incomplete you must correct it within the deadline.
  • Belgian residents declare foreign bank accounts and foreign income, even when that income is taxed abroad. A treaty may exempt it, but it still goes on the return.
  • If you moved here for work, ask whether the special tax regime for incoming taxpayers and researchers applies to you. Ask your employer or adviser about it early.

The tax return services compared

The free FPS Finance help with filling in your return is not rated: fin.belgium.be showed an image captcha on 2 November 2026, so its dates, places, booking method and languages could not be verified. If you want this route, open the FPS Finance help page yourself and check whether sessions are offered near you and in which language before you count on it.

1. Fiscada 7.0/10

Ranked 1 of 5 rated providers in this guide.

Best for: Brussels residents with a simple return who want an accountant to file for a low fixed price.

Fiscada is a Brussels accounting office with an English website and a dedicated expat page. Its fee page publishes a fixed price for an annual income tax return: €60 excl. VAT (simple return). That is the lowest published price in this guide, but read the basis: Unit price for a simple annual income tax return; representation before authorities €100/hour excl. VAT. If your file has foreign income, property abroad or several annexes, ask for a quote first.

Fiscada files the return for you. Beyond the return, its expat service covers help with tax assessments, appeals and letters in a Belgian administrative language, which is useful when the tax office writes to you in French or Dutch.

The office is in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert (1200 Brussels), with a phone line and office hours published on weekdays. Fiscada says it also works remotely, but no client portal or app is described, so expect to exchange documents by e-mail. Its website footer states an ITAA number; the register could not be checked: States ITAA no. 70477267 (not verified, register blocked).

Fiscada suits Brussels residents with a simple salaried situation who want an accountant to file at a low, known price, and who may want the same office to answer the tax administration later. It is less suited to people who want an online portal or a fixed price for a complex international file.

What works

  • Lowest published price
  • Help with tax assessment disputes

Watch out

  • Price only for a simple return
  • No online portal described

2. Accountable 6.7/10

Ranked 2 of 5 rated providers in this guide.

Best for: Self-employed sole traders who want to file their own income tax and VAT with app support.

Accountable is an app for self-employed people, not for salaried employees. Its Taxes plan costs €20.90/month excl. VAT (special price shown; regular €29.90/month), yearly plan, and the plan structure is Monthly price, billed on a yearly plan; Max plan €59.90/month with 12-month commitment. The pricing page shows the higher figure as the regular price and the lower one as a special price, so check which applies when you sign up.

The plan covers the annual income tax return, VAT returns and the client listing. You prepare and submit through the app: You submit via the app, with chat support by tax coaches. Accountable includes a guarantee on fines for each declaration, with a higher cover and tax audit protection on the Max plan, excluding fraud and non-submission.

The app and website are available in English. Coaches answer by chat on the Taxes plan; phone calls are only included in Max. Signup is online and free to start, and you can cancel the standard plans at any time; Max requires a year’s commitment. The app also includes a business account and a virtual Mastercard. Accountable does not claim ITAA status on its pricing page: No ITAA claim on pricing page.

Accountable suits sole traders, including freelancers who just registered with a social insurance fund, who want to keep VAT and income tax in one English app at a monthly cost. If you are an employee with no self-employed activity, it does not fit.

What works

  • Fine guarantee
  • Covers VAT and income tax for sole traders

Watch out

  • Only for self-employed sole traders, not salaried employees
  • Monthly subscription, not per-return

3. Taxpatria 6.1/10

Ranked 3 of 5 rated providers in this guide.

Best for: Expats with cross-border income or non-resident status who want a firm to prepare and file in English.

Taxpatria is an expat tax firm with offices in Zaventem and Antwerp, working in English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Portuguese. It publishes fixed fees: €540 excl. 21% VAT (resident return); €585 excl. VAT (non-resident return). The same fee applies to separate and joint returns. Extras may apply for foreign bank accounts, foreign real estate, Cayman reporting and other non-standard reporting, so the price for an international family can be higher than the base fee.

The process is three published steps: sign up, fill in the online tax organizer in English, approve the draft. Taxpatria then files: Taxpatria files after you approve the draft. First-time clients must complete the full organizer; returning clients may get a shorter version. The fee is due once the draft calculation is provided and never depends on a refund.

Audits, objections and tax office queries are not covered by the filing fee. Taxpatria has in-house lawyers for tax disputes, billed separately. It publishes phone numbers for both offices and says it typically replies quickly. It says its accountants are ITAA certified: Says it has certified ITAA accountants; register not checked (blocked).

Taxpatria suits expats with cross-border income, non-resident returns, foreign assets or a partner with income abroad, who want the whole return prepared in English. For a single Belgian salary, it is the most expensive published option in this guide.

What works

  • Handles both resident and non-resident returns
  • Fixed published fee
  • Lawyers in-house for tax disputes (separately billed)

Watch out

  • Highest published price in this guide
  • Add-ons for foreign assets

Tax-on-web (MyMinfin) Not enough verified data to rate

Best for: Residents with a simple salary situation who already have an eID or itsme.

Tax-on-web is the government’s online filing application, part of MyMinfin. You file yourself: You file yourself. Format: Online, via MyMinfin; login with eID or itsme. For many residents with a simple salary, the return is partly filled in already, for example with the salary figures your employer reports, and you check and complete it.

We could not confirm the details on an official page because fin.belgium.be showed a captcha on 2 November 2026. The price is not published on a page we could read, and whether the interface is available in English is not published. The MyMinfin application itself loads in the browser, so check the language selector when you log in.

The barrier for newcomers is the login. You need a Belgian eID card with a card reader, or the itsme app, which is usually activated with a Belgian ID card. People who arrived during the year may not have either when the campaign opens. In that case, a firm with a mandate or the paper form is the way to file.

Tax-on-web suits residents with a simple situation who already have an eID or itsme and can read the return in French or Dutch. It gives you full control and the electronic deadline. It is not for people without Belgian digital ID or with complex foreign income they cannot classify.

Neotax Not enough verified data to rate

Neotax runs an online tax return service with a page for Belgium, but its website returned a block page when we tried to read it on 2 November 2026. Nothing about the Belgian service could be verified: price check current price, English service not verified, who files not verified and ITAA status not verified.

An English URL for Belgium exists, which suggests English content, but that is all we can say. If you consider Neotax, ask for the price, what the fee covers, whether a registered accountant signs the return and how they handle tax office follow-up. Then compare with the published offers above.

Too few of its points could be verified, so it is not rated (not enough verified data). We will update this entry once the pages can be checked.

If you do not have an eID or itsme yet

This is common in the first year. Without Belgian digital ID you cannot log in to MyMinfin, so you have three choices: file the paper form if you receive one, give a mandate to an accountant or expat firm who files electronically for you, or wait until you have your card if the deadline allows. The firms in this guide that file for you are Fiscada, Taxpatria, Pro-Pay and Finest Consult.

If you are self-employed

Self-employed income changes the return: you declare professional income and costs, social contributions, and possibly VAT throughout the year. Returns with self-employment income can come with a later electronic deadline (see the calendar above), but your social insurance fund and VAT obligations run on their own schedule. Accountable is built for this situation if you want to do it yourself with an app. If you prefer an accountant who keeps your books, Fiscada and Finest Consult both work with freelancers; ask for a quote that covers the full year, not only the return.

If you have income or property abroad

Foreign salary, pensions, rental income, a property at home or foreign bank accounts all need the right annexes. Treaty exemptions are not automatic: they must be claimed on the return. Taxpatria publishes add-on pricing for these cases and covers non-resident returns; Pro-Pay handles the treaty exemption annex as part of its service. Ask any firm whether foreign assets are included before you send your documents.

Step by step: filing your Belgian return with help

  1. Collect your documents early: salary slips and the annual tax form from your employer, bank interest statements, foreign income records, proof of deductible costs (childcare, pension saving, mortgage).
  2. Decide whether you file yourself (eID or itsme required) or give a mandate.
  3. If you give a mandate, check the firm in the ITAA register and get the fee and what it covers in writing.
  4. Answer the firm’s questionnaire or organizer completely, including foreign accounts.
  5. Review the draft before approval. Ask questions about anything you do not understand.
  6. Keep proof of filing.
  7. When the assessment notice arrives, check it, pay any balance on time, or ask your adviser about an objection if you disagree.

Our verdict

Fiscada comes out ahead in the table. For a simple salaried return in Brussels, Fiscada is the one to choose: an English service, the lowest published price and help with later letters from the tax office. Self-employed sole traders who want to handle income tax and VAT themselves in English should look at Accountable. If your situation is international, with foreign assets, a non-resident return or a partner abroad, Taxpatria is the most complete English option, at a higher price. Tax-on-web is the right tool once you have an eID or itsme and a simple file. Pro-Pay and Finest Consult are worth a call for the expat regime or combined business help, while the FPS Finance help sessions and Neotax could not be verified this time.
